Troubleshooting your camera and microphone with Mixaba

When you join a party your browser should prompt you to allow microphone and camera access. It might look something like this:

Firefox prompt

If you see this prompt and can allow access, you should see the camera and microphone fields below populate a few seconds later for you to choose which devices you'd like to use.

Sometimes there are browser settings that prevent the prompt from showing up. If you never see the prompt and the dropdowns on the page aren't letting you select a camera or microphone you may need to adjust your browsers settings.

Chrome and Brave Browser

  1. Take a look at your address bar for a little camera icon in the upper right hand corner. Try clicking that and adjusting the settings directly on the page. After clicking 'Allow Access' you may need to refresh the page.
  2. If you don't see a camera icon in your address bar then at the top right, click the hamburger icon > Settings.
  3. Under "Privacy and security," click Site settings.
  4. Click Camera or Microphone.
  5. Turn on Ask before accessing.
  6. To allow Mixaba if you accidentally blocked access: Under "Blocked," select the Mixaba  and change the camera or microphone permission to "Allow."
  7. Go back to the party and try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work try looking here or reach out to us on chat!

Firefox

  1. Look at your address bar for a little camera and microphone icon on the left side of the URL. They may be crossed out. Try clicking those and adjusting the settings directly on the page. After clicking 'Allow Access' you may need to refresh the page.
  2. If you don't see a camera icon, click the menu (hamburger) button in the upper right hand corner and select Preferences
  3. Click Privacy & Security
  4. Scroll down until you see 'Permissions' and go through the 'Camera' and 'Microphone' settings and if Mixaba is in the list please select 'Allow'.
  5. One additional thing to check is in the Microphone and Camera settings popup make sure that 'Block new requests asking to access your microphone' is not checked.
  6. Go back to the party and try refreshing the page. If you continue to have issues try looking here or reach out to us on chat!

Safari (Desktop)

  1. Go to Safari > Preferences > Websites
  2. In the 'General' pane click on Camera and if Mixaba is in the list, change it to 'Ask' or 'Allow'
  3. Ensure that 'When visiting other websites' is set to 'Ask'
  4. Repeat for the Microphone tab in the 'General' pane.
  5. Go back to the party and try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work try looking here or reach out to us on chat!

Safari (iOS)

Unfortunately there is no way to permanently grant a website access to the camera within Safari, so if you accidentally press 'Deny' when it prompts for permissions, or if you don't ever get a prompt, you'll need to do the following:
  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Find 'Safari' and scroll down to 'Settings for Websites' at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click on 'Camera' and change the setting to 'Ask'
  4. Repeat for 'Microphone'
  5. Go back to the party in Safari and try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work please reach out to us on chat!

Microsoft Edge

  1. From the party screen click on the Lock icon next to the website link in the address bar.
  2. Click on 'Site Permissions'
  3. Set both 'Camera' and 'Microphone' to 'Allow'
  4. Go back to the party and try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work please reach out to us on chat!
